The FIA Kumho TCR World Tour season is winding down with just two events left on the 2024 schedule after South American rounds at Interlagos-Sao Paulo (Brasil 19th-21th August) and Autodoromo el Pinar (Uruguay 2nd – 4th August).

Taking place at Interlagos Mikel carried extra 40kg of ballast in the car due to the big success at USA, expectations before the event were to finish top 10, due to the extra 40kg and having TCR South American drivers competing together with FIA TCR World Tour, we knew is not going to be an easy weekend. Races were full of competition with the rivals and Mikel was able to score P8 at Race 1 and P9 at Race 2, finishing that weekend with total amount of 22 points and leaving championship standings at 5th position.

Two weekends after FIA TCR World Tour flew to Uruguay for the 5th Event of the season, a track that Mikel knows very well from 2023 being at the podium. Expectations before the weekend were to be competitive to fight for the victory as he lost the extra 40kg for this event due to not being competitive in Brasil.

Free practice sessions started very well, with challenging weather conditions raining and going in to the Qualyfing session with no rain but dump track. Mikel managed to qualifying in P2 in the most difficult qualifying conditions of the year so far.

Race 1 Mikel showed a fast pace fighting with the leader Yan Erlacher, being both drivers the fastest pulling from the rivals, finishing the Race in 2nd position.

Race 2 staring from reversed grid (P9), Mikel showed again his fast pace and after brilliants maneuvers overtaking rivals he was able to finish P5, optimizing the weekend as the plan with 51 points and leaving the championship closer to the leader.

Next event will take part in China – Zhuzhou Circuit at 18th to 20th of October, due to the success of Uruguay Mikel will carry again extra 30kg in the car.
